Success,
Now to drill the finger holes. I need to get started on the rest of the parts for the full set.

This sounds interesting.
I don't know much about this type of casting, especially not for instruments.
Will there be any turning or other 'heavy' tool work once you remove the parts from the mold or just fine detail work and finishing?
I can't wait to see some pictures. _________________ Aaron |

No turning but I will have to drill the tone holes after the chanter is made.

Seth,
What sort of resin did you use for the casting? I'm looking to do a similar project for Hungarian bagpipes and am not sure what resins (out of the hundreds available) would work the best. I'd be interested in any advice about suppliers, handling concerns, etc.
Best,
Arle |

I found out today that the resin I'm using has great machinable properties. the chanter on the left is straight from the mold and the middle and right chanter's have been machined to fit stocks of different makers.
These prototypes are soon to be tested by various pipers. A fourth chanter has to be made to fit into a Leif E. set. Cheers Seth

That's awesome!
How do they sound? Have you noticed any difference in timbre between those and wooden chanters?
I remember there was some discussion here a year or two ago about how the material shouldn't affect the sound: does it sound the same to you? _________________ Aaron |

I use a Leif E. set if you don't already have some one to test one of your chanters I would be willing. _________________ Luck follows the generous. |
