As a
result of our ongoing press releases, in February, Norden Folk was
contacted by Swedish Radio International, in Stockholm and a joint
interview was recorded and aired on Swedish Radio International's
(English) program In Touch, on
March 7th, 2004.(Then) Director of English programming, Nidia Hägstrom was intrigued by our American spark race and our coordination with a similar event in western Dalarna, Sweden. On March 13th, 2004, in the community of Nås, the Nås Bygdegårdsfårening (history club) will be hosting their third, annual spark race on the lake ice, near the town of Nås. Best known as the Swedish community from which a large group of religious fundamentalists departed for Israel, to colonize during the 19th Century; nearly all perished. The tragedy was popularized in the Swedish film Jerusalem, available at many public libraries. |
Norden
Folk will be exchanging photographs and video footage with Nås
Bygdegårdsfårening to further promote our mutual events, on both sides
of the ocean. Through our affiliation with many US Community
TV stations, we continue to air one of several short films of Norden
Folk's activities and events, including selected footage from both
kicksled races. Nås Bygdegårdsfårening's Nall-Lasse Andersson, one of the race coordinators in Sweden; told Nidia Hägstrom that, "...like Norden Folk, he hopes to further popularize both events through the increased publicity in newspapers, radio and televison. Radio Sweden
