Yxkastning...
anyone?
Yxkastning
as the
Swedes call it, is a sport which began in
Canada, or so the Canadians claim. Maybe they never hear of the
Vikings? If your Viking blood urges you to deny
this bit of information, come prove that you ancestors
once threw iron at something other than
a 36" wooden target.
Norden Folk have added this fun event for he-men and he-women (pardon the term) this
year and it should prove to
be as much excitement as the kicksled races. We set up two
targets
so there'll be plenty of time for everyone to have some fun...and yes,
the ax does turn one full loop on the way to the
target. Casting's
far easier than it appears, so don't despair of trying this cool
activity.
And ladies! Check out the number of he-women
in the
Swedish Championship list appearing in the graphic, on the right.
If you doubt
your gender's abilities in this sport, think again and look at the 2004
first place winner!
